Freeman Blade, Phoenix Suns

FREEMAN BLADE
Director of Girls basketball

Freeman is a master trainer of basketball skills and personal development. He was the last cut by the Phoenix Suns in his day & played professionally in Europe. Randy White considers him his mentor.

Freeman is developing a Sports Ethics Curriculum to be taught in school systems, recreation centers and community centers in Northeast Ohio and beyond with emphasis on coach, player and parent relationship in the training and development of youth athletes.

Charles Smith

Charles Smith
Assistant director of basketball

Charles J. Smith was hired by Mayfield High School as the females athletes' basketball Head Junior Varsity Coach and the Assistant Varsity Coach in 2002. Charles accepted the challenge and has done a remarkable job creating a culture of success both on and off the court. Charles has commanded immense respect in the sporting arena and regards sports as an opportunity to assist in the development of healthy bodies and young minds.

Charles is a highly-talented basketball coach with 12 years of coaching experience. Charles is credited with possessing excellent leadership, training, and mentoring skills. In all of the 12 years as Coach at Mayfield High School, Charles has always taken a personal interest in player development. Charles has paid special interest in the youth by including:

• Discussing student athletes goals and experiences
• Creating and running up-to-date relevant drills
• Helping to develop each participants physical fitness
• Fostering a culture of good sportsmanship, cooperation and responsibility

Born and raised in Ohio, Charles is a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School.

Coach Will Williams

Will Williams

For 14 years, Coach Will Williams has been a mainstay on the sidelines for St. Francis-Cleveland School. While coaching the 8th grade boys team, Coach Will made four CYO Final Fours including one city championship and garnering two runner-up trophies.

This past year, Coach Will transitioned to coaching the St. Francis Lady Lions, where he took a team that was 3-17 in its past two seasons to a 9-1 record.

For his accomplishments with his players on and off the court, Coach Will Williams was inducted into the CYO Hall of Fame in 2014. He is the first African-American male in the Hall of Fame's history. Coach Will and his wife, Dana, reside in Cleveland near the St. Francis campus. He is excited to bring his philosophy of "Play Hard. Play Smart. Play Together." to DG Warriors.

Biography

Coach Macon started coaching in 1993 at Tri-C Community College and one of his players was current NBA player Ben Wallace. He joined the DG Warriors family in 2009 as a coach.

Ronald Calhoun

Ronald Calhoun

As a player Ron was a three year letterman at Lutheran East. He was the winner of the Travis Air Force Base One on One Competition, and was selected as a walk-on to the Cleveland State Men’s Basketball team, and earned the Euclid Church League Christian Athlete Award.

As a member of the United States Air force Ron was the head coach from 1974-1976 for the Travis Air Force Base Hawks. Over the next several years Ron held the head coaching position at St. John South Euclid Middle School, Lutheran High School East, Cornerstone Christian Academy, and was Freshmen Coach at Lakewood High School. Under his coaching tutelage, his teams have been blessed with numerous awards: Northern California Martin Luther King Tournament Runner-up; Lutheran Middle School All-Ohio Championship; East Suburban Conference Coach of the Year; O.H.S.A.A. District Championship; and O.H.S.A.A. Regional Runner-up.

Coach Calhoun loves to share his knowledge and experience to players who dream big and work hard. His ultimate goal is to produce a high level of skills in basketball coincided with a high quality, productive member of our community.

I have a true passion for the game of basketball and love to work with kids of all ages. The game has evolved over the years but the philosophy has remained the same. It is built on fundamentals and being brilliant at the basics. As a coach I stress fundamentals, commitment and sportsmanship.

"My Goal is to physically and mentally teach boys the fundamentals of basketball, identify and improve on strengths while also providing knowledge and training to overcome their weaknesses.

My team goal is that players learn to care for each other on and off the court and develop a cohesive team chemistry where the whole is better than the individual parts while at the same time improving their individual skill set."

"As a licensed USA Basketball Youth Development coach, I take seriously the opportunity I have to influence children through basketball. Helping players grow and develop while contributing to their overall happiness is why I coach."

Married to his best friend, DeOndra, they have two amazing children, Shayla (12) and Justin (10) who keep them busy with their school studies, string instruments, swimming, volleyball and, of course, basketball.

Coach Marlon Bolden

Marlon Bolden 

Marlon grew up in the inner city of Cleveland, OH on St. Clair Ave. He found his passion and love for basketball at the young age of 13 years old. He was privileged to have an opportunity to play basketball at Glenville High School and South High School, as well as play Division III basketball at Mount Aloysius College in Cresson, PA. Marlon’s passion and heart to train our youth fuels him to push young players to strive for excellence in spiritually, academics, and athletics.
